After completing her undergraduate degree in Theatre and Philosophy at the University of Texas, Ms. Spencer relocated to New York City, where she pursued further education at NYU and The Actors Studio Playwright/Director's Unit, a prestigious program led by esteemed industry professionals Elia Kazan and Arthur Penn.
Throughout her time in New York City, Ms. Spencer actively wrote and directed numerous plays, solidifying her skills in the field. Her work was showcased in various venues, including Circle Rep Lab, a renowned theater company. In addition, she wrote and directed plays in London and Los Angeles, demonstrating her versatility as a creative force.
As a published poet, Ms. Spencer has demonstrated her proficiency in multiple artistic mediums. Her work has transcended the boundaries of theater, as she has ventured into film, premiering her first feature, Little Noises, at the Sundance Film Festival. Her subsequent films, Faces On Mars (also known as Wake Up Running) and The Ninth Cloud, have garnered widespread acclaim and recognition, with the latter being released in Europe and the UK in April 2018 and available on iTunes and Amazon Prime in the USA and UK.
Ms. Spencer's most recent feature, South of Hope Street, has been met with critical acclaim, earning numerous awards at the Siena International Film Festival in 2024. The film boasts an impressive cast, featuring Tanna Frederick, Judd Nelson, William Baldwin, Asser Yassin, Jack McEvoy, Michael Madsen, Patricia Sluka-Negri, Angelo Boffa, and has been acquired by Buffalo8 Productions for domestic distribution in the United States.
In addition to her work in film, Ms. Spencer has two projects in development, including 'The Velvet Gentleman', which will star Jean Hugues Anglade, and 'The Red Weather', in collaboration with FilmInTuscany Productions.
Ms. Spencer's dedication to her craft has been recognized by the film industry, as she received an award for her work as a filmmaker from Producers Without Borders at the Venice Film Festival in 2023, honoring her contributions to 'Auteur and Poetic Filmmaking'.
Currently, Ms. Spencer resides in Europe, where she continues to work on new projects, solidifying her position as a talented and accomplished filmmaker.
