Jan Kutrzeba's journey began in Poland, where he was born to a family of accomplished individuals. His father, Stefan Kutrzeba, was a renowned classical pianist and pedagogue, while his mother, Lidia Kutrzeba, was an engineer and musician. Jan's younger brother, Franciszek Filip, is a talented musician, painter, and academic.
When Jan was just five years old, his family made the bold decision to emigrate to Finland. This move would have a profound impact on his life, shaping his experiences and ultimately influencing his career choices. As a child, Jan was already demonstrating a passion for music, playing the piano, accordion, and even drums for high school bands.
Jan's musical talents extended beyond playing instruments, as he later toured with a band as their alto saxophonist, driver, and manager. However, his early career path was not solely focused on music. He initially studied international business, and then went on to work a variety of odd jobs, including cab driving, finance, construction, and advertising.
It was only later in life that Jan discovered his true calling in acting. Prior to working in the United States, he lived in five different countries, gaining a wealth of cultural and linguistic experience. In 2010, he made the move to New York City, where he has been based ever since.
Jan's work in television and film has been his primary focus since his arrival in the United States. However, he has also made time for other creative pursuits, including writing and directing. In 2015, he wrote and directed the single-shot short film Wszysko Bedzie Fajnie (Everything Will Be Nice),which premiered at the Cannes 2016 Court Metrage and went on to tour numerous film festivals.
The film received widespread acclaim, including the Best Audience Award at the Zero Film Festival in New York City. Jan's work as a real estate agent in New York City is a testament to his versatility and ability to adapt to new challenges.
