James Joseph O'Neil's illustrious career began with his Off-Broadway and AEA debut in Galt McDermott's production of "The Hired Man" at the 47th St. Theatre.
He then made his mark on Broadway, playing the role of Fred in the Roundabout revival of "Present Laughter", alongside esteemed actors Victor Garber and Brooks Ashmanskas, and covering Jesse Tyler Ferguson in the Second Stage Revival of "Take Me Out" at the Helen Hayes Theatre.
Off-Broadway, O'Neil has had the privilege of working with renowned directors and actors in productions such as Erica Schmidt's staging of "A Month in the Country", featuring Peter Dinklage and Taylor Schilling, and Jo Bonney's direction of "Look Back in Anger", starring Reg Rogers and Enid Graham, both at the Classic Stage Company.
In addition to his numerous Off-Broadway and Broadway credits, O'Neil has also had the opportunity to work with esteemed regional theatres, including Hartford Stage Co., The Old Globe Theatre, Mark Taper Forum, South Coast Repertory Theatre, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Baltimore Center Stage, American Repertory Theatre, Huntington Theatre Company, Ojai Playwrights Conference, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, American Stage Festival, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Pioneer Theatre Company, and Long Wharf Theatre, under the guidance of directors such as Christopher D Betts, Erica Schmidt, Brian Kulick, Darko Tresnjak, Sarah Benson, Anne Kaufman, Barry Edelstein, Kwame Kwei-Armah, Irene Lewis, Martin Benson, Dan Sullivan, Benny Sato Ambush, Nicholas Martin, Jack O'Brien, and Craig Noel, among many others.
O'Neil's dramatic training includes a Master of Fine Arts degree from The Old Globe/University of San Diego and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Adelphi University.
