Jake Horowitz is a multifaceted Canadian creative force, exceling as a writer, director, and producer. As the founder of Sideways Dog Productions, Jake has successfully brought numerous feature films, television series, and short films to the screen, premiering at film festivals and theatrically across four continents.
Jake's directorial debut, the meta-rom-com All About Who You Know, garnered widespread critical and commercial acclaim upon its 2019 premiere. The film went on to accumulate awards and screenings at prestigious film festivals worldwide, and is now available on Paramount Plus in the US and Crave in Canada.
In 2020, Jake directed, produced, and co-wrote Sideways Dog Productions' second feature, Cup of Cheer. The movie received critical acclaim upon its theatrical release, with a four-star review in the National Post, a primetime review on CBC News hailing it as "the spoof to end all spoofs," and CTV critic Richard Crouse calling it "a dizzying onslaught well delivered by a game cast." Internationally, the film was met with widespread praise, topping the Canadian box office for two weeks, and is now available on CBC Gem.
Jake has recently completed two seasons of the comedy/mystery series Sunshine City and is currently in post-production on their third feature, the dark comedy mystery A Thousand Cuts, set for release in 2023.
As a producer, Jake has participated in various high-profile industry programs, including winning the JETS Award at the Berlin Film Festival (2018, 2020) and being a member of the Academy of Canadian Film and Television, a recipient of its Equity and Inclusion Program. Jake's industry journey began with a prestigious Writer's Apprentice Award at the Banff World Media Festival in 2014.
In addition to his work in film and television, Jake has won awards for stand-up comedy and is a published author, with several short stories featured in international anthologies, including the acclaimed collection The Unseen by Fincham Press. Jake holds a Master's Degree in Creative Writing from the University of Roehampton in London, UK.
