Iwan Rheon is a Welsh actor, singer, and musician born on May 13, 1985, in Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire. At five years old, his family moved to Cardiff, where he grew up and began acting in school drama productions at age 17. He was later spotted at a National Eisteddfod of Wales and studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Rheon's early career included roles in Welsh language soap Pobol Y Cwm and the stage production Eight Miles High. He also played Moritz Stiefel in the London production of Spring Awakening, earning a What's on Stage Award nomination and winning the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical at the 2010 Olivier Awards.
Rheon's television work includes portraying Simon Bellamy in the E4 series Misfits, for which he was nominated for a Golden Nymph in the "Outstanding Actor - Drama Series" category. He also appeared in the final episode of Secret Diary of a Call Girl and made guest appearances as Ben Theodore in Simon Amstell's comedy Grandma's House.
In 2011, Rheon was cast as Ramsay Bolton in the HBO series Game of Thrones, a role he played until the character's demise. He also portrayed Ash Weston in the ITV sitcom Vicious. In 2012, he filmed the crime heist drama The Rise and began shooting Libertador in Venezuela and Spain.
Rheon's music career began at age 16, and he was the lead singer in The Convictions until leaving the band to pursue acting. He has released several EPs and a solo album, Dinard, and has collaborated with his brother, Aled, on the single "Rhodd".
Rheon is fluent in Welsh and English, with Welsh being his first language.
