Isabel Allende is a renowned and influential literary figure, whose body of work has made a significant impact on the world of Southern American literature. Born in Lima, Peru in 1942, she relocated to Chile with her mother and two brothers at the tender age of three. Her childhood was spent at her maternal grandparents' home, where she was exposed to a rich cultural heritage.
As she grew older, Isabel's family continued to move from place to place, due to her step-father's diplomatic career, which took them to various countries around the world. This nomadic lifestyle had a profound impact on her life and writing, allowing her to draw inspiration from diverse cultures and experiences.
Isabel eventually returned to Chile, where she married, had two children, and began her career as a journalist. However, the military coup led by Pinochet in 1973 forced her to flee the country once again, this time to Venezuela, and later, the United States. She currently resides in San Rafael, California, with her second husband.
Throughout her illustrious career, Isabel has written a wide range of works, including novels, short stories, children's books, and even theater plays.
