Huseyin Karabey is a highly acclaimed Turkish film director, widely regarded as one of the country's most promising new talents in the independent film scene, which has been gaining recognition and global distribution in recent years.
During the 1990s, Karabey was deeply involved in the Democracy Movement, an experience that has significantly influenced his subsequent film work. His determination to expose human rights violations through film was motivated by both his personal experiences in prison and his confrontations with the state while attempting to document and explain human rights abuses on camera.
Karabey earned his degree in Cinema-TV from the Fine Art Faculty of Marmara University in 2001. He is committed to creating independent films that tell fresh, first-hand stories from his region, and his documentary films and feature films have been selected for numerous international film festivals, garnering various awards.
Karabey's first feature film, "Gitmek - My Marlon and Brando", was selected for the 37th Rotterdam International Film Festival and premiered in North America at the 6th New York Tribeca International Film Festival, where it won the Best Director Award. To date, the film has been screened in 36 international film festivals and has won numerous accolades.
As Artistic Director, Karabey was involved in the production of the Omnibus project "Do not Forget me Istanbul". His latest film, "Come to my voice", premiered at the Berlinale in 2014 and won several awards, including Best Film at the Mar Del Plata FF in Argentina and Best Balkan Film at the Sofia FF.
Karabey's upcoming project, "Hamarat Apartment", has been selected for the No borders/ IFP and Cinelink in Sarajevo.
