Harry Gamboa Jr., a multi-talented individual, was born in 1951 in Los Angeles, California, where he spent his formative years. This renowned essayist, photographer, director, and performance artist has gained international recognition for the unique blend of activism and social critique that permeates his work.

As a key figure in the East LA Walkouts of 1968, Gamboa was instrumental in sparking a movement that would have a lasting impact on the community. Furthermore, he founded the avant-garde art collective ASCO, which was active from 1972 to 1987, and continued to shape the artistic landscape.
