Biography

Cora Gretta Gould was born to John Gould and Charlotte Diana Scott Gould in Perth County, Ontario, Canada, specifically in the region of Southeastshire, Stratford. As a resident of Harmony, a community situated south of Stratford, Gretta spent her formative years within the confines of this close-knit community. Initially, Gretta pursued a career in education, taking on the role of a school teacher. However, her fascination with the world of drama soon led her to enroll in The Margaret Eaton School in Toronto, Ontario, where she further honed her skills.

As the early years of the 20th century unfolded, Gretta embarked on a stage career, gradually making a name for herself in the entertainment industry. By the early 1920s, she had established and operated The All-Canadian Concert Bureau, a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit. Gretta's personal life took a significant turn in 1925 when she married Charles Welsh, a jeweler from Stratford. The couple's life together was marked by significant changes, as Charles sold his jewelry business and they relocated to Los Angeles to be closer to the film industry.

In addition to her film appearances, Gretta also made a mark in radio plays on the NBC Blue Network, showcasing her versatility as a performer. Moreover, she demonstrated her creative prowess by writing a few plays of her own. Tragedy struck when Charles Welsh passed away on May 19, 1943, and his remains were returned to Stratford for burial at Avondale Cemetery. Gretta continued to reside in Los Angeles until her own passing on April 26, 1966, bringing an end to a life filled with varied accomplishments and experiences.
