Gordon Michaels was born in Detroit, Michigan, to a father of Italian, Irish, and Jewish descent, and a mother of Cuban ancestry. He spent most of his youth in Michigan and graduated from John Glenn High School, where he played basketball for the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams, holding the school record for most rebounds in a game with an impressive 27.
