Goran Paskaljevic, a highly esteemed and respected figure in the realm of European independent cinema, first took his first breath in the vibrant city of Belgrade, Serbia, in the year 1947. As a young individual with a keen passion for the art of filmmaking, he proceeded to further his education at the prestigious Prague school of cinema, FAMU, where he honed his skills and gained a solid foundation in the craft.
Throughout his illustrious career, Paskaljevic has directed an impressive array of 30 documentaries and 17 feature films, many of which have garnered widespread acclaim and recognition at some of the most esteemed international film festivals, including the Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Toronto, and San Sebastian film festivals.
In the year 2001, the esteemed publication, Variety International Film Guide, went on to recognize Paskaljevic as one of the world's top five directors of that year, a testament to his unwavering dedication and exceptional talent.
In addition to his numerous accolades, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, also known as MoMA, presented a comprehensive retrospective of his feature films in the year 2008, accompanied by the publication of a monograph in English, which delved into the intricacies and complexities of his remarkable body of work. The British Film Institute in London followed suit in 2010, also showcasing a retrospective of his feature films, further solidifying his status as a master of his craft.
