Giovanna Morales Vargas is a multifaceted creative force, hailing from Colombia and currently residing in Vancouver, Canada. As a writer-director and journalist, she is passionately driven to amplify the voices and stories of underrepresented communities through her work as a Latinx filmmaker, with a particular focus on advancing women's creative roles in the media industry.
Giovanna's debut feature, A Perfect 14 (2020),premiered at numerous film festivals worldwide, garnering widespread critical acclaim and numerous awards, including the Storyteller Award at the Women Texas Film Festival. The film's impressive accolades also included five top non-fiction awards, including Best Documentary at the Twin Cities Film Festival, where it shared the spotlight with Academy Award-winning and nominated films.
Following a successful festival run, A Perfect 14 was acquired by Gravitas Ventures for global distribution and is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, where it ranked among the platform's top 10 most-watched documentaries in Canada for several weeks after its release.
As Giovanna continues to hone her craft, she is currently writing her second feature-length documentary and developing her first narrative feature, further solidifying her status as a rising talent in the world of documentary filmmaking.
