Gio Petré, born Ann-Mari Birgitta Bengtsdotter Petré on November 1, 1937, in Stockholm, Sweden, began her acting career at the tender age of 18 with a role in "Flottans muntergökar" in 1955.
Born into a family of artists, Petré's passion for the performing arts was evident from a young age. She spent a year honing her craft at Gösta Terserus theatre school in Stockholm before being accepted into the prestigious Royal Dramatic Theatre School in 1956.
