Person Biography:
Gillian Berrie is a renowned film producer and casting director, best known for her work in the Scottish film industry. She co-founded Sigma Films with director David Mackenzie in 1996, producing numerous award-winning shorts and feature films.
Berrie's early career involved working on various film and television projects, including casting director roles on Ken Loach's "My Name is Joe" and Lynne Ramsay's "Ratcatcher". This experience led her to establish the charity "Starfish", which later evolved into "Jumpcut", "Short Circuit", and "Big Fish Casting".
Throughout her career, Berrie has produced many notable films, including David Mackenzie's "Last Great Wilderness", "Hallam Foe", "Young Adam", "You Instead", "Perfect Sense", "Starred Up", and "Outlaw King". She was also involved in the post-production, festival, and theatrical release of "Hell or High Water", which received an Academy Award nomination.
Berrie has also worked on various other projects, including the critically acclaimed pilot and second episode of the Disney/FX series "Under the Banner of Heaven", for which Andrew Garfield received an Emmy nomination. She is currently working on her first short film, "Hunger", as writer and director.
Berrie has received numerous awards and nominations for her work, including the BAFTA for Outstanding Achievement at the Scottish BAFTA New Talent Awards in 2002. She has also founded several initiatives to support the film industry in Scotland, including Film City Glasgow and the Jumpcut Summer School.
