Gérard Sire is a renowned French radio host and storyteller, whose illustrious career spanned decades. He began his professional journey at Europe 1, before making a significant move to France Inter, where he became the most popular radio host of the 1970s.
In addition to his morning news commentary, which aired from 7h to 9h, Sire also hosted an afternoon program, during which he regaled listeners with at least one captivating short story. Some of these short stories have been published posthumously, providing a lasting legacy of his remarkable storytelling prowess.
Beyond his radio work, Sire also ventured into film, penning the screenplays for several movies directed by Jean Yanne, including the satirical comedy "Tout le monde il est beau, tout le monde il est gentil". This critically acclaimed film, which poked fun at the cutthroat world of radio, became a cultural phenomenon in France, with its title becoming a common expression meaning that everyone is beautiful and nice, albeit in a tongue-in-cheek sense.
Sire's impressive resume also includes the writing of numerous TV series. Furthermore, he made appearances in a few films, often playing small but memorable roles for his friends Jean Yanne and Claude Lelouch. In Lelouch's Palme d'Or-winning film "Un homme et une femme" (1964),Sire's distinctive radio voice provided the background soundtrack, while his first son played the role of Jean-Louis Trintignant's son Antoine in the same film.
Tragically, Sire's life was cut short due to cancer on November 22, 1977, leaving behind a legacy of three sons and a wife, who later passed away as well. Despite his untimely departure, Sire's remarkable contributions to French radio, film, and television continue to entertain and inspire audiences to this day.
