Biography

Georgiy Taratorkin is a multifaceted individual, renowned for his outstanding work in the realms of theater and film, as well as his dedication to teaching the art of acting.

Born into a family that valued creativity, Taratorkin's early life was marked by the loss of his father at the tender age of seven. His mother, with the support of his sister Vera, raised the children and instilled in them a deep appreciation for the performing arts.

Taratorkin's formal training began at the Leningrad Youth Theater, where he graduated from the studio in 1966. Under the guidance of the esteemed Zinovi Korogodsky, he honed his craft, taking on leading roles in numerous productions until 1974.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Taratorkin's talent for poetry recitation earned him widespread recognition. His ability to convey not only the content but also the beauty of the verse was unparalleled, and he frequently performed readings of works by Aleksandr Blok and other prominent poets of the 'Silver Age'.

In 1974, Taratorkin received an invitation to join the esteemed Mossovet Theater, where he made his debut as Raskolnikov in Yuri Zavadsky's play 'Petersburg Dreams', staged in 1969.

Taratorkin's foray into film began in 1968 with the role of Sofiya Perovskaya, and his breakthrough performance as Rodion Raskolnikov in Lev Kulidzhanov's adaptation of Fyodor Dostoevsky's 'Crime and Punishment' (1970) cemented his status as a household name.

Since 1996, Taratorkin has shared his expertise by teaching acting at VGIK, leading a course and guiding the next generation of performers. In the same year, he was elected first secretary of the Union of Theater Workers of Russia, further solidifying his position as a respected figure in the Russian theatrical community.
