Biography

Meet Stanley Donen, the renowned film director, born to Louis K. Sidney, the esteemed vice president of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (M.G.M.),and Hazel Mooney, a talented member of the Mooney Sisters. As a teenager, Donen gained invaluable experience by working as a studio messenger, allowing him to navigate every department and absorb the techniques and secrets of the film industry.

In 1933, Donen was entrusted with directing screen tests for a trio of rising stars: Judy Garland, Robert Taylor, and Janet Leigh. This pivotal assignment marked a significant milestone in his career, and his exceptional work led to a promotion to direct short films and the beloved "Our Gang" comedies, which garnered him two Academy Awards.

As his reputation continued to grow, Donen was promoted to feature films in 1942, where he went on to helm notable productions such as "Annie Get Your Gun," "Showboat," and "Pal Joey."
