Barbier's academic pursuits initially focused on preparing him for a career in the ministry, however, he ultimately redirected his endeavors towards the world of stage performance. His theatrical endeavors were met with significant success, as he appeared in notable Broadway productions such as "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and "The Man Who Came Back", among a multitude of other notable performances. Subsequently, in 1929, Barbier entered into a contractual agreement with Paramount Pictures, marking the beginning of a long-term association with the esteemed film studio. His subsequent career trajectory saw him work as an actor for the majority of the major film studios, solidifying his status as a respected and accomplished actor of his time.
