Biography

George B. Seitz, a former playwright, made a significant career transition from the theater to Hollywood in 1913. He rapidly established himself as a skilled screenwriter, crafting scripts for action-packed serials such as The Perils of Pauline (1914),The Exploits of Elaine (1914),and The Iron Claw (1916). Not only did Seitz excel as a writer, but he also occasionally took on starring roles in these productions. Moreover, he began to direct these serials, achieving remarkable success. His remarkable directing abilities earned him the reputation of a prolific director, capable of handling a wide range of genres, including comedies, dramas, and westerns. Unlike many of his peers, Seitz adapted remarkably well to the transition from silent films to talkies. Throughout his career, he worked at various studios, including Columbia, but he is most closely associated with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). At MGM, Seitz directed an impressive array of films, including nearly all the entries in the beloved "Andy Hardy" series.
