Biography

Geoffrey Lewis, a remarkably gifted and accomplished character actor, boasts a rugged, occasionally stern countenance, which was shaped by his childhood in Rhode Island. However, his life took a dramatic turn at the tender age of ten, when he was relocated to California. Lewis's passion for the dramatic arts was ignited during his high school years, and he often preferred to stage his own one-man shows rather than participate in larger school productions. His drama teacher took notice of his burgeoning talent and recommended him to the Plymouth Theater in Massachusetts, where he appeared in summer stock. Following this, he made his mark on the New York City stage with several off-Broadway productions. After spending considerable time traveling, both domestically and abroad, Lewis refocused his attention on his love of the dramatic arts and landed his first minor film role in The Culpepper Cattle Co. (1972) as a jovial yet deadly cowhand. He then popped up as gangster Harry Pierpont in Dillinger (1973) before embarking on a long-term collaboration with Clint Eastwood, commencing with High Plains Drifter (1973),followed by appearances in Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974),Every Which Way But Loose (1978),and Any Which Way You Can (1980),as well as Bronco Billy (1980),Pink Cadillac (1989),and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997). Additionally, he portrayed patient Michael Kahn in Disturbed (1990).

Notably, Lewis was equally busy on the small screen, making guest appearances in numerous episodes of prominent television series. Moreover, he received a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in the series Flo (1980). Beyond his extensive film and television credits, Lewis is also a member of the unique musical/storytelling ensemble "Celestial Navigations," alongside award-winning composer and songwriter Geoff Levin. Their performances have garnered rave reviews from some of Hollywood's most esteemed actors and musicians, including Chick Corea. As Geoffrey Lewis approaches his seventh decade, there is no indication that his multifaceted talents as an actor, storyteller, and engaging entertainer will slow down.
