Biography

Gary Piland, a young boy who was shunned by his peers due to his excessive creativity and lack of practical sense, went on to become a successful entrepreneur and filmmaker. After high school, he co-founded a regional hard rock band, Limousine, which toured the Midwest for several years. In 1984, he discovered the Macintosh computer and began working in IT for a large advertising firm. He eventually opened his own web design, video production, and web development company, Umbrella, in 2003.

Despite his success in the tech industry, Gary's true passion has always been filmmaking, particularly in the horror genre. In 2010, he founded Roaring Rat Films, an independent horror film company based in Topeka, Kansas. With the help of talented local actors, musicians, and production staff, he has written, directed, shot, edited, and produced five movies to date.

Gary's filmography includes three zombie-comedy shorts: "Zombie Laundry" (2010),"Zombie Chigger" (2012),and "Zombie Tattoo Parlor" (2014). He has also directed three feature-length zombie-thrillers: "Zombie Beauty Pageant - Drop. Dead. Gorgeous." (2016),"Zombie, Kansas - Death in the heartland" (2017),and "Blackstone - Hand of God" (2021).

All three of his feature-length movies are available to stream on Amazon. Gary's mission is to create cult-classic feature-length horror movies that will appeal to fans of the genre.
