Frank Doubleday, a thin and intense character actor, was known for his unnerving portrayals of creepy villains in both film and television from the mid-1970s to the early 1990s.
Born on January 28, 1945, in Norwich, Connecticut, Frank moved to Los Angeles, California with his family at the age of six. He made his film debut in the 1976 comedy "The First Nudie Musical," playing an aggressive punk thug.
Doubleday's unique appearance, with his lean face, hollow eyes, and closely cropped light blonde hair, made him a striking presence on screen. He worked with director John Carpenter on two occasions, playing a vicious street gang leader in "Assault on Precinct 13" (1976) and a ghoulish flunky in "Escape from New York" (1981).
Throughout his career, Doubleday appeared in a variety of films, including "Avenging Angel" (1985),"Space Rage" (1985),"Nomads" (1986),"Broadcast News" (1987),and "Dollman" (1991). He also made guest appearances on several popular television shows, such as "Amazing Stories," "Sledge Hammer!," "Stingray," "T.J. Hooker," "Hill Street Blues," "CHiPs," "The Incredible Hulk," "Charlie's Angels," "Wonder Woman," and "Starsky and Hutch."
Outside of acting, Doubleday directed stage plays and taught acting at the Hollywood Court Theater. He passed away on March 3, 2018, at the age of 73, due to complications from esophageal cancer.
