Felipe Vargas is a multifaceted creative force, effortlessly blending the realms of fantasy, science-fiction, and horror to craft bold, original stories that captivate audiences.
Born in Colombia, Felipe's work is deeply rooted in fantastical Latin American mythology and legends, which serve as a rich source of inspiration for his projects.
Currently, Felipe is working on a Mexican fantasy-adventure series with the renowned production company ACT III, Sony Pictures Television, and Amazon / IMDb TV. He is also developing an original sci-fi series with Shawn Levy's 21 Laps Entertainment, an original horror comic book with Aftershock Media, and is attached to direct a horror-thriller feature.
Felipe's impressive filmography includes his fantasy film "The Guide", which was acquired by DUST in 2019 and premiered online, garnering over 3.5 million views on YouTube alone. His films "Vessel" and "Summer's End" were broadcast nationally on PBS in 2018 and 2016, respectively, while his sci-fi film "Grapefruit & Heat Death!" was also acquired by DUST and premiered in April 2020.
During his time at the University of Southern California, Felipe was the director and writer of two of the four greenlit thesis projects, including the horror-fantasy film "Milk Teeth", which received widespread attention, including 20+ million views on Creature Fabricator Kat Wells' behind-the-scenes Tik Tok series. He was also selected to co-direct a horror feature adaptation of "Phantom of the Opera" for USC, with backing from John Wells and Warner Brothers.
Felipe's versatility extends beyond writing and directing, as he has also edited two feature-length documentaries, which have been featured on CNN, TEDx, and The Today Show.
Throughout his career, Felipe's work has been featured in over 90 film festivals, including several Oscar-qualifying festivals such as HollyShorts, Bogo Shorts, and Sitges. He has received numerous awards and accolades, including the DGA Student Film Award, ASC Student Heritage Award, and Imagen Award.
