Farida Jalal's remarkable journey in the film industry began with her discovery by Filmfare's United Producers' Talent Hunt in the 1960s. As a teenager, she made her debut in the Rajshri Productions' movie "TAQDEER" in 1967, marking the start of a long and illustrious career.
Over the years, Farida has appeared in more than 200 movies, primarily as a character actress, but also taking on leading roles in some films. She is affectionately known as Bollywood's all-time Favourite Mother, a testament to her enduring popularity and versatility as an actress.
Farida took a hiatus from acting in the early 1980s, only to make a triumphant comeback later, taking on a wide range of roles, including those of an elder sister, mother, grandmother, elderly neighbor, and widow.
One of her most iconic roles was as Rajesh Khanna's betrothed in the 1969 hit film "Aradhana", which featured the memorable song 'Bhagon Mein Bahar Hai, Kaliyon Pe Nikhar Hai...'. She also played the betrothed of Rishi Kapoor in the 1973 hit film "Bobby".
Throughout her illustrious career, Farida has won numerous accolades, including five Filmfare awards for her performances in "Paras", "Majboor", "Henna", "Mammo", and "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge".
In her personal life, Farida was married to Tabrez Barmavar and gave birth to a son, Yaseen Barmavar. However, tragedy struck when Tabrez passed away in 2003.
Despite the challenges she faced, Farida remains one of the most accomplished and beloved actresses in Bollywood, having played an important role in almost every major hit film in the industry.
