Afineevsky's most recent documentary, "Freedom on Fire: Ukraine's fight for freedom", premiered at the 79th Venice Film Festival and received the Kineo Award. The film was also recognized at the Toronto International Film Festival and several other prestigious festivals, earning a total of 6 awards. Additionally, "Freedom on Fire" was nominated for a Critics' Choice Documentary Award and earned 3 Emmy nominations.
In 2020, Afineevsky received the CIMA Social Justice Award for his work in telling stories that matter and his passion for humanity. He also premiered his documentary "Francesco" at the Rome International Film Festival, which won the prestigious Kineo Award.
