Evander's roots are deeply embedded in the cultural landscape of Asbury Park and Neptune, New Jersey, where a family rich in artistic and social activism nurtured his creative spirit from a young age. This early exposure to the arts and the importance of community service laid the foundation for his future endeavors in the world of film, theatre, and beyond.
As he pursued a career in medicine, Evander's passion for the dramatic arts continued to simmer, waiting to be unleashed. During his medical residency program, he would often find himself eagerly anticipating the evening hours, when he could trade in his stethoscope for a script and head to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts (AADA) in New York City to hone his craft.
Upon graduating from AADA, Evander began to audition and work in various showcases, regional theatre productions, short films, student films, independent films, and commercials. He continued to practice medicine, raise his children, and study the acting craft at various studios in New York City, all while maintaining a commitment to his community through the creation of the Small Professional Theatre Company, Stage East Ensemble.
As the company grew, Evander implemented guest artist contracts, employing professional AEA actors and mounting productions at the Algonquin Arts Center in Monmouth County, New Jersey. He also conducted developmental film readings at various NYC studios with SAG actors, further expanding his network and skillset.
Evander's dedication to his craft led him to continue his training at the Actors Center in New York City, where he had the privilege of studying under the late Lloyd Richards. This experience deepened his commitment to artistic endeavor and paved the way for him to earn work in AEA and SAG-AFTRA productions. As his passion for acting grew, he made the decision to prioritize his craft, leading him to earn an MFA in Classical Acting at George Washington University.
Today, Evander's work continues to flourish in film, television, and theatre, and he remains dedicated to the art of storytelling, with a deep appreciation for the power of performance to bring people together and inspire positive change.
