Evan Lurie, a multifaceted individual, was born as the fourth of four brothers in New York. His parents' divorce when he was just a toddler led to his mother's remarriage to a British businessman, allowing him to travel extensively across Europe.
From the age of five to 17, Lurie and his mother made it a point to explore the cultural treasures of their surroundings, wherever they were living. His father, an ex-Marine, taught his sons the art of boxing, which Lurie continued to pursue while living in Europe, taking up martial arts instead.
As he grew older, Lurie returned to the United States to reconnect with his father, brothers, and potentially pursue a martial arts career. He was immediately drawn to New York City, with its unique energy and feeling of nostalgia.
Lurie's martial arts skills landed him a job as a coach and stunt man on the CBS TV series, The Equalizer. During this time, he also spent time with his brothers, one of whom, Bruce, owned an art gallery that attracted notable artists such as Keith Haring and Andy Warhol.
Despite his passion for martial arts, Lurie decided to pursue a career in film, moving to Los Angeles to see if he could leverage his skills into a career. He was interviewed by action star Jean-Claude Van Damme, but ultimately ended up working as a bouncer at the Roxbury, one of L.A.'s hottest clubs at the time.
Through his connections, Lurie landed a role in a Van Damme movie, marking the beginning of his career as a fight choreographer and stunt man. His work in film enabled him to travel the world, but an injury sustained on a movie set forced him to reevaluate his life.
He and his wife, Jennifer, an actress and model, opened a gallery in West Hollywood, which played a key role in the development of the Avenues of Art and Design district, winning a California Governor's Award for Best New Business District in 1999. Lurie also collaborated with his brother Bruce on a gallery in Miami, connected to an art and design district.
Fluent in five languages, Lurie has the ability to connect diverse international artists with a network of art collectors across North America. He brings his passion and professional experience from film directing and production to the fine arts business, offering a fresh perspective on contemporary art.
Lurie's galleries, spanning from Los Angeles to Miami, have become a hub for discovering new and unique artwork. He fosters powerful relationships with artists and galleries worldwide, providing his collectors with access to exclusive representation of numerous artists from Europe, Cuba, Canada, and the United States.
Now residing in Carmel, Indiana, Lurie continues to live and breathe art, using his unique blend of martial arts, film, and business expertise to bring people and art together.
