Essy Persson, born Essy Ingeborg Vilhelmina Persson on June 15, 1941, in Gothenburg, Sweden, is a renowned actress, primarily recognized for her iconic role as "Siv" in the globally acclaimed film "Jag en kvinna" (I - a woman).
Persson's journey in the entertainment industry began with a stint as a secretary while concurrently studying acting at a private theatre school. Her breakthrough came in 1963 when she was cast in a play at Riksteater, Stockholm, subsequently transitioning to the Stockholm City Theatre.
Notably, Persson was considered a "male pipe dream" due to her uncommonly attractive and emancipated appearance, which was considered modern and sexy for her time. In 1965, she starred in the blockbuster film "Jag en kvinna", which inadvertently led to her being mistaken for the character "Siv" she portrayed on screen.
Disillusioned with being constantly typecast as light-footed, sexy women, Persson shifted her focus to the world of art. From 1981 to 1984, she pursued her passion at the College of Fine Arts. Since then, she has primarily been active as a visual artist.
Throughout her illustrious career, Persson has appeared in a total of 17 feature films and television productions, leaving an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.
