Erol Sander was raised in the Muslim faith and at the tender age of four, he embarked on a new chapter in his life by moving to Munich with his mother and sister in 1973. The city would become his home for a significant period, as he spent his school years at a boarding school located on the picturesque shores of Lake Chiemsee.
As he grew older, Sander's interests shifted towards academia, and he pursued a degree in political science and economics. However, his passion for the arts never truly faded, and he eventually decided to pursue a career in modeling. In 1992, he made the bold move to Paris, where he began his journey as a model.
Meanwhile, Sander's sights were set on the world of acting, and he made his first forays into the industry with various film projects in 1997. He soon made his television debut in Germany in 1999 with the TV pilot for the series "Sinan Toprak - The Untouchable". The following year, he married Caroline Godet, a niece of renowned film director Oliver Stone.
By 2001, Sander had become a regular fixture on German television, with 16 episodes of the series "Sinan Toprak" under his belt. He also appeared in the TV film "Now we're killing our men" during the same year. His versatility as an actor was showcased in demanding roles such as "The Apocalypse" (2002) and "Forever Lost" (2003).
Sander's breakthrough in the industry came in 2003 when he landed the role of the Persian ruler Shah in the two-part TV series "Soraya", which told the life story of Soraya of Persia. The same year, he starred in the TV film "My husband, my life and you". In 2004, he made his film debut in a supporting role in "Alexander", directed by Oliver Stone.
The actor continued to take on a wide range of roles, including the iconic character of Winnetou at the Karl May Festival in Bad Segeberg for the 2007 open-air season. He also appeared in films such as "A Love in the Sign of the Dragon" and "A Love in Cuba", among others.
From 2006 to 2010, Sander played the role of Dr. Daniel Guth in the TV series "The Alpine Clinic - Love Heals Wounds" (ARD). This was followed by his work on the crime novels "Istanbul Murder Commission - Blood Ties" and "Istanbul Murder Commission - Transit" in 2011.
