Per Järegård was a renowned Swedish actor, celebrated for his captivating and controlled performances on stage and screen. He was particularly recognized for his versatility in playing a wide range of characters, from comedic to morbid, with ease and aplomb.
Throughout his illustrious career, Järegård appeared in numerous productions, including Molière's "Tartuffe" and Samuel Beckett's "Waiting For Godot", both of which earned him widespread critical acclaim. He also starred in several television series, such as "Skånska mord", "Frida och hennes vän", and "De tre från Haparanda", as well as the TV theater adaptation of "VD".
On film, Järegård demonstrated his impressive range, from his debut in "Swedish Punks" to his supporting role in Lars von Trier's "Europa" and the leading part in von Trier's series "The Kingdom", which garnered international attention. His iconic role as the Swedish doctor Stig-Helmer on "The Kingdom" also made him a household name in Denmark, despite his character's aversion to the Danish people.
One of Järegård's most memorable performances was in the TV theater adaptation of Jonas Gardell's celebrated play "Cheek to Cheek", where he played the role of the old and discarded drag queen Ragnar Rönn who falls in love with an undertaker. This marked his final TV appearance, and he bid a grand farewell to Swedish viewers with the TV theater adaptation of Jonas Gardell's play, which aired in Swedish Television in the autumn of 1998, shortly after his passing.
