Ernie Malik has had a long and distinguished career in motion picture marketing, spanning over 30 years. He began his journey in the industry by working as a movie usher in a local cinema during his high school days in New Jersey.
Malik's early career was marked by a series of moves, as he worked for a small film distribution company in New York while studying for his M.A. in Cinema Studies at New York University. He then joined United Artists, where he held various positions, including computer technician and international publicity coordinator.
In 1983, Malik relocated to Los Angeles after MGM's purchase of United Artists. He later moved to Chicago, where he worked as the company's Midwest publicity coordinator. In 1988, he transitioned to freelance work as a production publicist.
Over the past quarter century, Malik has accumulated a remarkable list of 60+ feature credits, including on-set publicity for a wide range of films. His credits include the "Home Alone" trilogy, "There's Something About Mary," "Jurassic Park III," "12 Monkeys," and many others.
Malik has worked with numerous high-profile actors and directors, including Bruce Willis, Tom Hanks, Jim Carrey, Billy Bob Thornton, Sam Neil, Sam Rockwell, Harrison Ford, Russell Crowe, Jamie Foxx, Matthew McConaughey, Ben Stiller, Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman, David Strathairn, Robert DeNiro, Joaquin Phoenix, Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Connelly, Mira Sorvino, Emma Thompson, Tilda Swinton, Uma Thurman, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, and many others.
Malik has received several awards and nominations for his marketing contributions, including the 1998 Motion Picture Showmanship Award from the Publicists Guild of America for his work on "There's Something About Mary." He was also nominated for the PGA's Les Mason Award in 2002 and shared a Motion Picture Showmanship Award nomination in 2005 for his work on "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." In 2013, he received a third nomination for his work on "Saving Mr. Banks."
In addition to his on-set duties, Malik has also authored the 2008 book, "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian -- The Official Illustrated Movie Companion," published by HarperOne.
