Film director graduated from Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos (CUEC) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM),and currently attends the Escuela Nacional de Artes Cinematográficas (ENAC). This renowned director has received the prestigious Ariel Award from the Mexican Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on multiple occasions.
His impressive filmography includes his debut feature, Blue Eyelids, which garnered a nomination for the Camera d'Or at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. Furthermore, his film, I Dream in Another Language, won the esteemed Sundance Audience Award in 2017. In 2021, he released Impossible Things, a film that quickly captured the hearts of the Mexican public.
In 2023, his highly-anticipated film, Where the Tracks End, was released on Netflix to widespread acclaim. Contreras has also ventured into television, directing notable series such as El Chapo, Pedal to the Metal, and Belascoarán for Netflix, as well as Before I Forget for HBO MAX and Falco for Amazon.
His most recent project, Tengo que morir todas las noches, a series set to be released on Paramount+, won the Best Director award at the SeriesMania festival in France. Contreras is currently in post-production for Para siempre, a Netflix original series, where he serves as showrunner for both projects.
