Emil Minty, pronounced Em-eel, was born in late 1972 in the Australian state of New South Wales, possibly in Lidcombe, a south-western suburb of Sydney. He certainly attended school in Lidcombe and was only eight years old when he landed a pivotal role in a 1981 movie that starred a rising actor named Mel Gibson.
The movie in question was Mad Max 2, also known as The Road Warrior in the United States, and it catapulted Emil into international stardom at the tender age of eight, despite the fact that he remained silent throughout the entire film.
A staggering number of hopefuls vied for the role, and Emil emerged victorious when the final three boys were asked to recount the character Feral Kid's arrival at the compound. The movie was filmed in the outback mining town of Broken Hill, New South Wales, and the film's picturesque scenery is a faithful representation of the countryside surrounding Broken Hill for hundreds of miles.
Following his breakout role in Mad Max 2, Emil appeared in minor parts in two more films: Fluteman in 1982, where he played Toby, and The Winds Of Jarrah in 1983, where he portrayed Andy Marlow. He also landed a few television commercials during this period.
