Elio Quiroga, a multifaceted artist, is a Canarian film director, producer, screenwriter, and novelist, born in the vibrant city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, situated in the Canary Islands.
Initially, Elio pursued a degree in Computer Science Engineering, but his true calling lay in the world of film. In 1996, he directed the provocative feature film Fotos, which garnered critical acclaim and numerous awards, including Best Script and the Jury's Special Award at the prestigious Sitges International Film Festival. The film received an enthusiastic endorsement from the renowned director Quentin Tarantino.
Elio's subsequent works include the short animated film "Home Delivery", based on a short tale by Stephen King and presented by Guillermo del Toro. His third feature film, the horror movie No-Do, was sold to 20 territories, while his science fiction film La Hora Fria was sold to 15 territories.
As a screenwriter, Elio co-wrote the horror film Ausentes, directed by Daniel Calparsoro. His animated short film Me llamo María qualified for the Oscars in 2011.
Elio's fourth feature film, the documentary The Mystery of the King of Kinema, is a tribute to the legendary silent film star Max Linder. The documentary won Special Mention of the Jury in the 2014 Gijón Film Festival and the 2016 Platinum Award in the Yakarta IFCOM.
His fifth feature film, La estrategia del pequinés, is an adaptation of the noir best-selling novel by Alexis Ravelo and was released in Spain in 2019.
In addition to his work in film, Elio is also a published author. He has written the novels Idyll, El Despertar, Los Códices del Apocalipsis, and Los que sueñan, which won the Minotauro Novel Award 2015, the most prestigious science-fiction literary award in the Spanish language. His latest novel, the psychological thriller Entre los sueños, was published in 2018 by Ediciones B.
