Biography

Edgar Honetschäger, a multifaceted artist and filmmaker, hails from Austria, with his creative journey spanning across various international locations. From 1989 to 1991, he resided in New York City, where he was exposed to a vibrant cultural landscape.

Subsequently, he moved to Tokyo, Japan, from 1992 to 1998, immersing himself in the city's eclectic art scene. This period was marked by his first significant art exhibitions in Europe, the United States, and Japan, showcasing his unique perspective to a global audience.

In 1993, Honetschäger realized his internationally acclaimed Performance-Project, "Schuhwerk," in Tokyo and Yokohama, which garnered widespread recognition. This was followed by another Performance-Project, "(13 + 1)," staged in Tokyo and New York in 1995.

In 1997, he participated in Documenta X, a prestigious art festival held in Kassel, Germany, and presented his feature film, "Milk," at the Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival).

The year 2000 marked the realization of his filmic essay, "L+R," which premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. This was followed by the premiere of his trilogy, "colors," consisting of "The History of Chocolate," "Masaccio," and "In Times of Emergency," at the Kunsthalle Wien in 2001.

Honetschäger continued to push the boundaries of his craft, premiering his short film, "George in Hollywood," and internet film, "enduring freedom," in 2002. The following year, he premiered his film essay, "il mare e la torta."
