Biography

At the tender age of seven, a pivotal life event transpired as he and his family relocated to the picturesque state of Oregon. Following his academic pursuits at the esteemed University of Oregon, he embarked on a career path eerily reminiscent of his father's, opting to pursue a profession in dentistry. His academic endeavors culminated in a degree from North Pacific Dental College, marking the beginning of his dental career. For eight illustrious years, from 1929 to 1937, he honed his skills as an oral surgeon in the charming city of Eugene, Oregon. Subsequently, he relocated his practice to the sun-kissed community of Altadena, California, where he became a member of the renowned Pasadena Community Playhouse. As the years went by, he found himself torn between his passion for dentistry and his burgeoning interest in acting. Ultimately, at the age of 36, he made the bold decision to abandon his dental practice and dedicate himself to the world of acting. His cinematic debut arrived in 1939, and he went on to appear in over 100 films, showcasing his unique physical characteristics, including his endearing chubby face and distinctive gravelly voice. However, it is his iconic television roles in the classic series "Hopalong Cassidy" (1952),"Judge Roy Bean" (1955),"Petticoat Junction" (1963),and "Cade's County" (1971) that have cemented his place in the annals of American entertainment history.
