Person Biography:
Durgesh Kumar is an Indian actor who has made a mark in the film industry with his impressive performances. Born and raised in India, Durgesh's journey in the world of acting began when he came to Delhi in 2001 to pursue engineering. However, after failing to secure a spot in the entrance exam, he decided to join the theatre. He went on to act in around 35 plays and completed his BA Honours from IGNOU from 2004 to 2007.
Durgesh then took up a certificate course in acting from Shri Ram Centre Performing Arts & Culture from 2004 to 2006. He was later selected for the National School of Drama, one of the most renowned acting institutes in the world. From 2008 to 2010, he honed his acting skills at NSD and received a postgraduate diploma in acting from the institution.
After completing his training, Durgesh joined the National School of Drama as a repertory company from 2012 to 2013, where he received his first acting break in the Hindi film Highway. He has also done a fellowship on Chekhov Play before joining NSD repertory.
Durgesh has spoken highly of his family, particularly his elder brother, who suggested he join theatre when he failed to secure a spot in engineering. He has also credited his family for being his biggest support during his struggling days.
Durgesh considers actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui as his biggest inspiration. He has spoken about his experience working on the web series Panchayat 2, saying that he was surprised by the response to his character Bhushan, also known as Banrakas.
In his free time, Durgesh enjoys reading books, with his favorite being Hamlet by William Shakespeare. He is also an avid cook and often shares his culinary creations on social media.
Durgesh has been involved in various projects, including the show Eco Warrior, which focused on environmental and corona-related issues during the pandemic. He is an active member of Aranya theatre and Ujjagar Theatre group Mumbai, and has worked with directors Ajit Singh Pahlawat and Ipshita Chakraborty.
In 2022, a meme based on a scene from Panchayat 2 went viral on the internet, featuring Durgesh's character Bhushan addressing his companion Binod, "Dekh Raha Hai Na Binod".
