Biography

Duncan Birmingham is a multifaceted creative force in the entertainment industry, with a diverse range of experiences that span writing, television production, and filmmaking in Los Angeles.

He began his career by crafting engaging content for The Weekly World News, a sensationalized tabloid publication, before transitioning to a career in journalism as a reporter and editor for various Boston-based newspapers. Additionally, he honed his teaching skills as an adjunct faculty member at Emerson College, where he shared his expertise with aspiring writers and storytellers.

Upon relocating to Los Angeles, Birmingham's writing talents caught the attention of industry professionals, and he went on to sell numerous screenplays, including "Swingles," which earned a spot on The Black List and secured a deal with Paramount Pictures. The project even attracted the interest of Hollywood A-lister Cameron Diaz.

As a television producer, Birmingham played a key role in the development and production of the IFC series Maron, a show he co-created with comedian Marc Maron. He also served as a writer and executive producer on the program, as well as a writer and co-executive producer on the Starz series Blunt Talk, which was created by Jonathan Ames.

Birmingham's writing credits extend to a variety of other television shows, including HBO's Videosyncrazy, a project spearheaded by acclaimed director David Fincher. He has also written and sold his own original series concepts, including the comedy Foodies, which found a home on AMC.

In 2021, Maudlin House press published Birmingham's short story collection, The Cult in My Garage, which features cover blurbs from notable authors Jonathan Ames and Bud Smith.

As a filmmaker, Birmingham has written and directed numerous short films that have premiered at various festivals, including Sundance, AFI, GenArt, Miami Film Festival, Cleveland International Film Festival, Los Angeles Film Festival, LA Shorts Fest, San Diego Film Festival, Williamstown Film Festival, Catalina Film Festival, HorrorHound Weekend, New York No Limits, and the New York Film Festival.

Birmingham recently completed production on his first feature film, Who Invited Them, in the fall of 2021.
