Dragan Bjelogrlic is a renowned Serbian actor, director, and producer, celebrated for his remarkable 40-year-long acting career and his subsequent foray into directing and producing. Over the past two decades, he has established himself as one of the most recognized and successful creators in the region.
As an actor, Dragan has played over 90 roles in film and television series, showcasing his versatility and range. He began directing in 2009 and has since directed three films that have attracted a massive 2.5 million viewers to cinemas, making him the most successful director in the Balkans over the past decade.
His latest film, "Toma", became the most-watched film in the Balkans' cinematic history, attracting over 1.1 million viewers and closing the 2021 Sarajevo Film Festival. Dragan also directed the "Black Sun" series, which was the first series from the region to be streamed on Amazon Prime.
His directorial debut, "Montevideo, God Bless You", was showcased at over 50 international festivals, including Moscow, Warsaw, Beijing, and Sao Paulo, and was the Serbian candidate for the Oscars. The film won the Best Director and Best Film awards at the Serbian FIPRESCI association.
As a producer, Dragan has produced six films that have won over 30 awards at various film festivals, as well as five TV series. He was born on October 10, 1963, in Belgrade, Serbia, and began his acting career at the age of 15, playing the role of Sava Jovanovic Sirogojno in the film "Bosko Buha" (1978).
After graduating from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts (FDA) in 1989, Dragan became a well-known actor, recognized as one of Serbia's leading artists. He gained widespread attention with his role as Slobodan Popadic in the series "Better Life" (1987-1990) and went on to appear in numerous films and TV shows.
Dragan co-founded the production company "Cobra Film" with his brother Goran in 1994, which has produced some of the most famous theater plays, films, and TV series in Serbia and the Ex-Yu region. He is currently working on a period drama, "Chain Reaction", a big international project scheduled for shooting in 2022.
Dragan also established a masterclass at the Faculty for Media and Communications, Singidunum University in Belgrade, and is married to Maja Bjelogrlic, with whom he has two children, Mia and Aleksej.
