Douglas Taurel is a talented actor who has recently played Joe Petito in the Lifetime Movie, The Gabby Petito Story, alongside Thora Birch, who also directed the film. He has also lent his voice to the popular video game Red Redemption and has appeared in numerous television shows and independent films, including The Cobbler, starring Adam Sandler and Dustin Hoffman, and The Kindergarten Teacher, which premiered at Sundance.
Taurel has built a seasoned resume with characters living on the edge of life, with his work on Nurse Jackie earning praise from The Los Angeles Times as his most fascinating character yet to date.
As a director, Taurel recently finished working on the TV series Landing Home, which he wrote and starred in. The series earned Best Drama at the GI Film Festival, and Taurel was nominated for Best Actor and Best First-Time Director. The series is now streaming on Amazon, Apple, Google Play, Tubi, Vudu, and Vimeo On Demand.
Taurel is also known for his solo show, The American Soldier, which has been nominated for the Amnesty International Award. The play, which he wrote to honor Veterans and their families, is based on actual letters from veterans and their families spanning from the Revolution to the recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The show has toured throughout the country, performing in over 34 cities, including notable spaces like The Kennedy Center, The Library of Congress, and Off-Broadway at 59east59th street.
As a writer, Taurel was commissioned by the Library of Congress to write, create, and perform his second solo show, An American Soldier's Journey Home, which commemorates the ending of the First World War and tells the story of Irving Greenwald, a soldier in the 308 Regiment and part of the Lost Battalion. He has performed the play twice at the Library of Congress and the Hoboken Museum.
Taurel has also been nominated for the Innovative Theatre Award and has performed in numerous Off-Broadway productions in some of New York's most established theaters. He has also performed in productions such as Of Mice and Men, Hard Rain, An Enemy of the People, Gloria, The Deputy, King Lear, and True West.
Born in Houston, Texas, Taurel is the son of Latin American parents, with his mother from Colombia and his father from Argentina. He is fluent in Spanish and has constantly challenged himself mentally and physically, including boxing in college, running two marathons, bagging all 10 Scottish Munros, and running with the bulls in Spain on his honeymoon. He currently resides in Hoboken, New Jersey, and is an Ole Miss alumnus.
