Douglas Dean is a talented English actor who has also obtained Italian citizenship. Currently based in Rome, he was born in Dover, England, but grew up in south-east London as the eldest of eleven siblings. Dean's early passion for acting was fostered through his involvement in school productions and local amateur theatre groups, including the renowned Miller Centre, where he showcased his range by playing a variety of roles.
Dean's professional journey began with appearances in theatre productions, including TIE tours, provincial theatre shows, and festivals, as well as low-budget films, student films, corporate videos, and voiceover jobs. His mainstream debut came with the acclaimed HBO/BBC series 'Rome' and the British TV film 'Ghost Boat', starring David Jason, although his roles were ultimately cut from the final versions.
Undeterred, Dean continued to build a respectable portfolio of credits in films and television shows, as well as exploring other areas of the industry. He appeared in the first two seasons of the historical drama 'Medici', had a role in the first season of 'Devils' on Sky Atlantic, and starred in Terry Gilliam's award-winning short film 'The Wholly Family'.
Dean's recent projects include the opening episode of the second season of the popular 'Blood and Treasure' TV series, two short Christmas-themed films with Michael Madsen, Tom Arnold, and William Baldwin, and the forthcoming 'Starting Tomorrow I'll Get Up Late', a tribute to the Italian actor Massimo Troisi, alongside John Lynch.
As a fluent Italian speaker, Dean has also appeared in several popular Italian TV shows and films, sharing scenes with renowned actors such as Pierfrancesco Favino, Ennio Fantastichini, Elena Sofia Ricci, Cristiana Capotondi, and Filippo Nigro.
In addition to his acting career, Dean is an experienced voiceover artist, having narrated numerous award-winning documentaries.
