Born in Bac Ninh Province, Vietnam, Do Thi Hai Yen began her acting career at the tender age of 17 in 1999 with a minor role in The Vertical Ray of the Sun, a film that would later be released in 2000.
This early start paved the way for her subsequent role in Song of the Stork, a film that gained international recognition, including a nomination for a Grand Prix Award at the Paris Film Festival in 2003, and a Best Feature Film award at the Milan Film Festival in the same year.
However, it was her breakout role in The Quiet American in 2002 that truly catapulted her to fame, as she played the female love interest opposite a notable male lead.
Yen continued to showcase her versatility as an actress with leading roles in Chuyen cua Pao in 2006, Adrift in 2009, and The Floating Lives in 2010.
As of the time of this writing, her most recent work was in the 2015 production of Big Father, Small Father and Other Stories.
In addition to her successful acting career, Do Thi Hai Yen has also distinguished herself as a Vietnamese ambassador and honor guest for several luxury brands, including Louis Vuitton, Motorola V8Luxury, and Escada.
