Biography

Diana Lewis, a talented actress, was born on September 18, 1919, in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Born into a family of vaudeville performers, she, along with her sister Maxine and brother J.C., naturally followed in their parents' footsteps and pursued careers in show business.

Diana made her film debut in the comedy "It's a Gift" in 1934, and at the tender age of sixteen, she married actor Jay Faye. Her big break came when she landed a contract with MGM, appearing in films such as "Andy Hardy Meets Debutante" (1940) and "Bitter Sweet" (1940).

While working on the film "Gold Diggers in Paris" (1938),Diana formed a close friendship with actress Carole Landis. Unfortunately, her marriage to Jay ended in 1939. That same year, she met actor William Powell, who was more than twenty years her senior. After a whirlwind romance, the couple eloped on January 6, 1940.

Diana continued to act, taking on supporting roles in films like "Johnny Eager" (1941) and "Cry 'Havoc'" (1943). However, in 1943, she decided to retire from acting and devote herself to being a full-time wife. Her marriage to William was widely regarded as one of Hollywood's happiest, with William affectionately referring to her as "Mousie" due to her petite stature.

Despite not having any children of her own, Diana was incredibly close to her stepson, William David Powell. She spent her time engaging in charity work, playing golf, and enjoying her quiet life in Palm Springs.

When William passed away in 1984 at the age of ninety-one, Diana continued to live a peaceful life. Sadly, she succumbed to pancreatic cancer on January 18, 1997. Diana is laid to rest alongside William at Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City, California.
