Derrick was born and raised in North Little Rock, Arkansas, surrounded by his two younger siblings, and spent his early years in this southern city. However, his life took a dramatic turn when, before his freshman year of high school, he made the bold decision to relocate to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he began to nurture his passion for the performing arts by participating in high school theatre productions.
As he continued to grow and develop his skills, Derrick went on to study Theatre at a prestigious University, where he had the opportunity to hone his craft and lay the foundations for a successful career in the entertainment industry. However, after leaving college in his junior year, Derrick took a brief hiatus from the stage, during which time he dabbled in stand-up comedy and eventually found his way to the world-famous Groundlings Theater and School in Los Angeles, where he honed his skills in improv comedy.
In 2013, Derrick's hard work and dedication paid off when he was nominated for the prestigious Best Actor Award at the Berlin Film Festival for his outstanding performance in the film GAME OVER. This recognition marked a significant milestone in his career and cemented his status as a talented and versatile actor.
Derrick is perhaps most well-known for his starring role in the popular television show FULL COURT PRANKS, where he had the opportunity to prank professional athletes alongside his co-star Chris Webber. Additionally, he has also made appearances on Nickelodeon, playing the lovable character Jim, a devoted father, in the popular show Henry Danger.
In 2018, Derrick can be seen on the big screen alongside Julianne Moore and Michael Cera in Sebastian Lelio's remake of the film GLORIA. Furthermore, he has also been actively involved with his favorite charitable organization, ONESIGHT, which works tirelessly to provide free eye care to lower-income children in Los Angeles, a cause that is very close to his heart.
