David Robert Mitchell is an American director who has made a significant impact in the film industry, particularly in the horror genre. His breakout film, "It Follows", had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2014.

Before his success with "It Follows", Mitchell wrote and directed the short film "Virgin" in 2002. This 15-minute film tells the story of a local legend who sees a vision of the Virgin Mary, leading him to pursue true love. The film features Carolina Castro and Cameron Diskin in the lead roles.

In 2010, Mitchell wrote and directed his first feature-length film, "The Myth of the American Sleepover". The film stars Claire Sloma and Marlon Morton and had its world premiere at the South by Southwest festival on March 10, 2010. The film was released in a limited capacity on July 22, 2010, but gained a wider release on August 27, 2010.

However, it was his 2014 film "It Follows" that truly put Mitchell on the map. The horror film stars Maika Monroe and Keir Gilchrist and tells the story of a young woman who is pursued by a supernatural entity that takes on the form of different people. The film was a massive success, grossing over $14 million at the box office and earning widespread critical acclaim. It was labelled one of the best indie films of 2015 and received a wide release on March 27, 2015, courtesy of Radius-TWC, a division of The Weinstein Company.

Throughout his career, Mitchell has proven himself to be a talented and innovative director, capable of creating thought-provoking and engaging films that resonate with audiences. His success with "It Follows" has cemented his place as a rising star in the film industry, and fans are eagerly anticipating his future projects.
