Director, screenwriter, and producer, David Ondricek is a renowned filmmaker known for his distinctive post-revolution Czech style.
He made his debut with the film Whisper, released in 1996, followed by Loners in 2000, which was produced by his own company, Lucky Man Films.
Next, he created the comedy One Hand Can't Clap in 2003 and the film Grandhotel, which premiered at the Berlinale film festival in 2006.
His film In the Shadow, released in 2012, was a major success, taking home all the main awards at the Czech Film Critics' Awards and the Czech Lion Awards, and was even nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
In 2013, David Ondricek received the prestigious 10 Directors to Watch award from Variety magazine, recognizing the most noteworthy directors of the previous year.
He has also worked as an executive producer on several films, including Lost in Munich by Petr Zelenka and Anthropoid by Sean Ellis.
In 2018, he directed the two-part film Dukla 61, earning a nomination for the Golden Nymph at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival, alongside Ben Stiller and Stephen Frears.
His latest feature film, Zátopek, premiered in August 2021 as the opening film of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award.
The film received an amazing response from audiences and went on to win several awards in various categories.
