His most recent feature-length documentary, American Pain, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2022, after being jointly produced by CNN Films and HBO Max. This groundbreaking film delves into the origins of the opioid crisis, tracing the remarkable rise and fall of twin brothers from Florida who became the undisputed kingpins of America's largest prescription drug trafficking network.
Darren's previous documentary feature, Science Fair, garnered widespread critical acclaim, winning the Festival Favorite Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2018, the Audience Award at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival, a Critic's Choice Award, and an Emmy Award. The film is currently being adapted into a narrative feature by Elizabeth Banks and Universal Pictures.
