Daron Malakian, a renowned guitarist, was born in July 1975 in Glendale, California, to Armenian immigrant parents. Despite his childhood aspirations to play drums, his parents, concerned about the noise factor, opted to purchase an electric guitar for him instead. This serendipitous decision would ultimately shape his musical trajectory.
As a young boy, Daron became enamored with the instrument and dedicated himself to mastering it. His proficiency soon led him to begin writing his own songs, a talent that would eventually propel him to stardom.
During his teenage years and early adulthood, Daron performed with various heavy metal and rock bands, honing his craft and developing his unique style. It was during this period that he crossed paths with Serj Tankian, a poet-turned-singer from Beirut, Lebanon, who would later become the iconic vocalist of System of a Down.
The band's formation was a gradual process, with Daron meeting Shavo Odadjian, a fellow Armenian, and John Dolmayan, a Lebanese native, both of whom were residing in the United States. After experimenting with different names and lineups, the quartet ultimately settled on the moniker System of a Down, inspired by a poem penned by Daron himself, titled "Victims of a Down."
Throughout his illustrious career, Daron has been recognized as one of the greatest hard rock guitarists of the modern era. His signature Ibanez Iceman guitar, developed relatively recently, is a testament to his innovative approach to music. Furthermore, he is the founder of his own record label, Eaturmusic, a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit.
