Danny Thykaer is a Danish actor who embarked on his professional journey as a child actor and model. He subsequently honed his craft by studying at the prestigious The Brenaa Theatre Institute, where he trained as a method actor. This formal education was further supplemented by a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree from the NSCD school. With a career spanning over two decades, Danny has worked extensively in various mediums, including stage, screen, and television, since 1997.
Throughout his career, Danny has had the opportunity to play a wide range of roles, from leading characters to supporting actors, in numerous Danish films over the past decade. One of his most notable performances was as the schizophrenic David in the movie "Skizo," for which he was awarded Best Actor at the UK's Horror Film Festival in 2009.
In 2010, Danny received a nomination for Best Villain at The Action On Film International Film Festival in Los Angeles for his portrayal of the leader of a pack of murderers and thieves in the post-apocalyptic film "Eastern Army." The following year, he starred as the lead in the blaxploitation film "The Fro," a role that earned him recognition for his performance as the Mexican undercover cop known as the Fro. The film won the Best Spoof award at the AOF film festival in Los Angeles.
In 2012, Danny appeared in two films, the cop-thriller "No Good Deed," where he played the character Benjamin, and the Danish supernatural horror film "Emma," in which he also co-wrote the script and played the tender family man Frank. In 2013, he was featured in the films "Skavengers" and "Inmate 48."
In 2014, Danny made his directorial debut with the feature film "Backgammon," which he also wrote and produced. The film went on to win several awards, including Best Foreign Language Film, Best Actor, and Best Cinematography, at various festivals in the USA. Danny himself was awarded Best Actor in a Feature Film for his work on "Backgammon" at The Action on Film International Film Festival.
The success of "Backgammon" continued in 2015, with the film winning awards at film festivals in the USA and Indonesia. It was also officially selected for several other film festivals. Throughout his career, Danny has been recognized for his dedication and hard work, earning praise for his performances on stage and screen. His recent addition to his resume as a director demonstrates his willingness to take on new challenges and continue growing as an artist.
