Biography

Cynthia Rothrock is a renowned martial arts expert and athlete who has made a lasting impact in the world of film and entertainment. Her illustrious career began in Hong Kong, where she first gained recognition as an action actress, earning the nickname "Queen of Martial Arts films".

As a martial arts competitor, Rothrock achieved unparalleled success, holding the title of World Champion in martial arts Forms and Weapons from 1981 to 1985. Her remarkable record includes over 100 competitions, with an undefeated streak that has yet to be matched. In weapons competition, she made history by becoming the first and only woman to win number one in North America against male opponents.

Rothrock's impressive martial arts credentials are matched only by her achievements in film. Her debut movie, Yes, Madam, alongside Michelle Yeoh, broke box office records and catapulted her to stardom in Hong Kong. After completing seven films in three years, she returned to the United States to continue her acting career, which has since spanned over 60 movies.

Throughout her career, Rothrock has been a trailblazer for women in martial arts and film. She has been featured on the cover of Karate Illustrated magazine three times, making her the first woman to achieve this distinction. In 2024, Black Belt Magazine named her the number one most influential woman martial artist on the planet, cementing her status as a legend in the martial arts community.

Rothrock's numerous accolades include being inducted into the prestigious Black Belt Hall of Fame, alongside Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris. In 2016, she became the first martial artist (male or female) to be inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame, a testament to her enduring influence and impact on the world of martial arts and entertainment.
